Color Fitting Help
Overview
Color Fitting is a tool for selecting colors based on what colors you like most.
It primes your imagination by presenting you with color proofers selected from
the complete spectrum of 16,777,216 colors. The ones you like you can keep or
fix until you create the perfect combination of colors. These color schemes can
be printed with complete RGB, HSB, and HTML references.
You can also use Color Fitting to test your favorite color schemes with pictures
and drawings. You can paste a Color Fitting image into another document or use
it as background in your web pages or slide shows.
Select Colors
You select your colors and create your color schemes in the Selection Tab.
The selection process is easy as Color Fitting prompts you with different color
proofers at a time. You choose the number of proofers in the Create Colors Group
and then press the Create New Colors Button or the space key to create more
colors.
You can keep the colors you like by adding them to your color schemes. To add a
color to a color scheme, just pick the color proofer with the mouse and drag it
to the Color Scheme Box at the bottom of the screen. You can also add a color to
your color schemes by selecting Keep it! in the Right Click Menu.
If a particular combination of colors is to your liking, you can keep them all
either by pressing the Keep All Button or choosing Add All through the Right
Click Menu associated with each color scheme. If you later change your mind, you can remove a
color from your color schemes by placing the cursor over it and then choose
Delete Color from the Right Click Menu. You can also delete all colors at once from a
color scheme by choosing Delete All from the Right Click Menu.
To help the selection process, you can fix certain colors in the proofers by
choosing Fix it! from the Right Click Menu. You can then continue creating more
colors using the remaining proofers until you find a color that goes well with
it. In fact, Color Fitting lets you fix as many proofers as you want so that you can find the
perfect color combinations.
The colors in the proofers and schemes can be dragged back and forward and you can
at any time pick a color from a color scheme and paint a proofer with it to
check how it works together with a new color.
The selection of colors can be made using both the RGB (Red, Green,
Blue) system with 256 X 256 X 256 = 16,777,216 colors and the HSB (Hue,
Saturation, Brightness) system with 360 X 101 X 101 = 3,672,360
colors. You select your favorite color system through the Type Menu in the Color
Range Group.
Color Fitting also allows you to select shades of the three primary (red, green,
and blue) and three secondary (yellow, cyan, and magenta) colors of the additive system
by selecting a fixed color from the Type Menu. You can also choose shades of
grays by choosing Grays in the Type Menu. Shades of fixed colors are created
using the HSB system.
Irrespective of the system you've chosen in the Type Menu, by moving the sliders
of the color system components you can change the color range and create shades
of any color you like.
Create Color Schemes
You can select your favorite colors and group them in color schemes. Color schemes are created in the Selection Tab
of Color Fitting.
Color Fitting allows you to work with a maximum of six different color schemes at a time.
There are however no limitations to the number of colors you can put in each
color scheme. You select the number of color schemes in the Color Schemes Gallery.
You can create your color schemes using colors selected from the proofers or by
adding your own colors.
To select colors from the proofers, just
put the cursor over the proofer and drag it to a color scheme at the bottom of
the screen. You can put the same color in different color schemes and you can
also move a color from a color scheme to another by dragging it with the mouse.
Within a color scheme you can reorganize your favorite colors by dragging a
color from one place to another. You can also sort your favorite colors using
different parameters, including the components Hue, Saturation, and Brightness
of the HSB color system.
To add your own colors to a color scheme, select a color with the mouse and then
select Adjust Color in the Right Click Menu. Then you introduce your color
reference by setting the right values for Red, Green, and Blue using the color
component sliders. For minute adjustments, select a slider and then use the
arrows – top and bottom or left and right arrows – in the keyboard. You can
obviously use this system to make fine adjustments to colors created by Color
Fitting.
Colors can be removed from a color scheme by choosing Delete Color in the Right Click
Menu. You can also clear all colors from a color scheme either by choosing
Delete All in the Right Click Menu or by placing the cursor over the blank
spaces in the color scheme and then press Clear Color Scheme in the Right Click Menu.
You can add notes to your color schemes to record your ideas or what motivated
you to create them. These comments are accessible either for editing or
visualization through the Right Click Menu associated with each color scheme.
Your comments also appear in the Printing Report.
Select Color Shades
Color shades can be created and selected using two different methods. The first
uses the HSB system to create the colors and has the three primary (red, green,
and blue) and three secondary (yellow, cyan, and magenta) colors as a starting point.
Then by moving the sliders in the Color Tool of the Color Range Group you can
create and select shades of any color you like.
The second method uses a different algorithm for color generation and allows you
to use both the RGB and the HSB systems to create color shades. You switch on
this method by dragging a favorite color either from a color proofer or from a
color scheme and dropping it in the Color Tool Square of the Color Range Group.
You'll see the caption change to My Colors RGB or My Colors HSB depending on the
system you are using. You can also move the sliders to fine-tune your starting
color. Then by pressing the Create New Colors Button you can create different
shades of your favorite colors.
Adjust Favorite Colors
Color Fitting allows you to adjust your favorite colors by hand. Through the
Right Click Menu you can fine-tune any color from any proofer or from any color
scheme by selecting Adjust Color and then moving the component color sliders to
the right positions. For finer adjustments, you can use the arrows – top and
bottom or left and right arrows – in the keyboard after selecting a particular
slider with the cursor.
Color Fitting also allows you to make last
minute adjustments in your color schemes during the Staging process or in the
Color Pie Tab.
Select Colors with Textures
Color Fitting ships with a gallery of textures you can use to select your
colors.
By selecting a texture in the Textures Gallery, all the color proofers will
feature the chosen texture and the selection process is done using this texture
in all the proofers until you choose a different texture or select No Texture
from the Textures Gallery.
You can also test the effect of a
particular texture on a favorite color by selecting a particular texture through
the Right Click Menu and therefore test different textures at the same time.
Proofers with textures can be copied
through the Right Click Menu to other applications or used as background in your
web pages or slide shows. You can also copy them to the Staging Board of Color
Fitting.
Select Colors with Images
You can load your own images into the color proofers and then select colors with
your images in the background. Image files such as .jpg, .tif, .gif, .png, .bmp,
or .tga are loaded through the Right Click Menu.
Images can be removed from your color
proofers by selecting Remove Image in the Right Click Menu.
You can copy a proofer with an image through the Right Click Menu and paste it
into other applications or into the Staging Board of Color Fitting. You can use
these images as background in your web pages or desktop.
Fit Colors with Images
Color Fitting allows you to try your favorite colors and color schemes with
images. The fitting process is done in the Staging Tab. Image files such as
.jpg, .tif, .gif, .png, .bmp, or .tga are loaded by selecting them from the
Images Gallery or by selecting Open from the Image File Menu.
You can also paste images from other applications directly into the Staging
Board. Color Fitting images, both from the Selection Tab proofers and the Color
Pie Tab, can also be pasted to the Staging Board. Then by selecting a color from
your color schemes, you can type and format text over it and also draw lines or
simple geometric forms.
Your new images can be saved to disk to be
used in other applications.
Fit Colors with Drawings
You can make simple drawings in the Staging Board of Color Fitting to check how
your color schemes work together.
The drawing tools of Color Fitting allow you to draw lines, rectangles, and
ellipses. You can fill your rectangles and ellipses either with color or
textures. You can also fill an area or object with color or textures by
selecting the Flood Brush in the Drawing Toolbox Group. You can also type text
with your colors and test them using different fonts and effects.
Drawings can be saved as image files such
as .jpg, .tif, .png, or .bmp and used in other applications.
Test Colors on a Color Pie
You can check very quickly how your favorite colors work together using the
Color Pie of Color Fitting. By dragging colors from your color schemes and
dropping them on the testing board, Color Fitting adds extra slices to the Color
Pie.
Colors can be removed from the Color Pie by selecting Remove Color in the Right
Click Menu. You can also delete all colors and start anew by selecting Remove
All Colors in the Right Click Menu.
The colors in the Color Pie can also be tested against a background by dragging
and dropping a favorite color in the Background Color Square in the Background
Toolbox.
You can make final adjustments to the
colors in the Color Pie by selecting a color in your color schemes and then
adjust it by selecting Adjust Color in the Right Click Menu. You can also make
adjustments to the background color by moving the sliders in the Background
Toolbox.
You can copy the Color Pie to other applications and also copy it to the Staging
Board of Color Fitting for further modification.
Print Color Schemes
Color Fitting prints your color proofers and color schemes using the standard
format of color strips with the respective color references. References are
given for the RGB, HSB, and HTML systems.
Color Fitting also prints the comments you added to each color scheme on the
Printing Report for your future reference.
